In shallow waters of the Caribbean Sea grow thousands of acres of delicate, living
fragile reefs for survival. Imagine what it might be like to drift through a
coral reefs. Hundreds of species of fish and other creatures depend on these
Caribbean reef's waters. Cownose rays swoop and flutter around you. Silvery,
streamlined tarpon shoot past while colorful parrotfish munch on coral.
Occasionally, a bonnethead shark or hawksbill turtle swims by. When you visit
Shedd's historic and recently renovated Caribbean Reef environment, you can see
all that and more as you peer into this 90,000-gallon habitat.
Five times a day, watch a diver hand-feed the animals. Listen as the diver,
through an underwater microphone, describes the reef's animals and explains some
of the environmental challenges that face Caribbean coral reefs. As you
experience our Caribbean Reef environment, you'll begin to learn about some of
the connections between living things in this complex ecosystem.
