Around the World In 80 Tanks

In Shedd Aquarium's historic galleries, you'll experience a quick trip around the world. Approximately eighty tanks offer windows into the world's aquatic ecosystems and the incredible diversity of fishes and other animals that live there. More than 300 species inhabit Shedd Aquarium's galleries. They represent North and South America, Asia, Africa, and Australia, and descend from homes as different as Lake Tanganyika in Africa to Lake Michigan here in the United States, from Asian rivers and the Red Sea to the Fox River in Illinois.

In Ocean Coasts, you'll meet animals who live along the rocky shores from the Pacific to the Atlantic. Closer to home, the Illinois Lakes and Rivers gallery gives a close up view of local residents, like river otters, trout and sturgeon.
Our Tropical Waters teem with the diverse fishes that swim through the warm freshwaters of Central and South America and Africa. Nearby, in Africa, Asia and Australia, you'll see the variety of shapes and colors of African Lake fishes, Australian lungfish, and a dramatic, faithful recreation of an Asian tropical river and forest. Enjoy your World Tour!
