History
Three young Chicagoans saw a need to reach out to new audiences on behalf of the John G. Shedd Aquarium and started the Auxiliary Society in 1992. They understood that the future of Chicago's large, historic cultural institutions would soon be moving into the hands of a new generation. That vision helped shape what is now a resurgence of philanthropic support from Chicago's young professional community. |

The Board
A Board of elected individuals, primarily between the ages of 25 and 35, manages the Auxiliary Society. They are leaders both in business and their communities. All show an enthusiasm for learning about the natural world and are interested in supporting the mission of the John G. Shedd Aquarium. They come from diverse backgrounds and, together, look forward to leaving an indelible mark on the face of one of Chicago's most beloved institutions. |

The Focus
The Board has determined their priority will be to support a plan to open several new exhibits at Shedd. Money raised by Auxiliary Society members will be earmarked for the acquisition of a number of sharks that will inhabit our new exhibit. This exhibit, opening in the spring 2003, will tell the stories of Coral Reefs and their inhabitants. |
